Johanna Munson
Johanna’s calling is to support individuals and families as they embark on the sacred journey that is end of life planning. She was inspired to enter the field through the experience of losing both of her parents 11 years apart.
“Growing up, my family avoided the topics of aging and death,” Johanna recalled. “Even as adults, we avoided those conversations, and none of us had ever discussed her wishes before my mom was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 74. Too weak to spend her last days at home, she went into the ICU and passed away in the hospital five weeks later. I lived with guilt and regret for years.”
This experience led Johanna’s father to seek clarity about his end of life values and educate himself on his options. The family began to have open conversations leading to advance care planning. Johanna and her siblings were then able to support her dad through the ups and downs of his journey, and he had the end of life journey he had planned. Johanna had peace of mind because her dad had the courage to face the reality of temporary existence and invite her into conversation.
Johanna became passionate about seeing individuals and families experience that same peace of mind, so she became a trained End of Life Doula, and she continues her education at every opportunity. She believes that through this important work, people will become inspired to live their best life now. In her words:
“Planning brings peace, and that is my wish for you. Together we will identify your values, deepen your relationships, and create a roadmap for you and your loved ones to follow.
It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as your guide on this courageous journey.”
