Frequently asked questions.

FAQs

  • Your package includes 8 conversations with your ELDR, each one lasting an hour or less.

  • The majority of our sessions take place virtually over Zoom or Google Meet.

  • You can expect a thoughtful, compassionate, well-organized conversation during each of your 8 ELDR sessions. Each conversation is a give and take which includes a balance of your answers to key questions, information exchange, guided decision-making, and recommendations for further action. You will advance through the following four phases, crafted by your ELDR in response to your unique story:

    • Assessment (what are you bringing to the table?)

    • Design (making a plan unique to your situation and your priorities)

    • Implementation (getting stuff done)

    • Closure (wrapping up the process).

You can find more in-depth information on the activities and topics covered in the four phases here.

  • Our founding team and ELDRs each have personal experiences with death that challenged us to grow. These experiences continue to motivate us as we work, according to our values, to improve the end of life for all.

  • We recommend one conversation per week, but we recognize that things may come up and you may need additional time to complete your sessions. Most packages are completed in 8-16 weeks, though are allowed to take as much as 24 weeks depending on your personal pace and schedule.

  • You can find our complete listing of ELDR profiles here. We offer a number of filters to help you find your best match, including gender identity and sexual orientation, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, specialities, and training programs. You may want to ask yourself: “Do I want someone LIKE me, DIFFERENT from me, or some combination of both? Do I care more about extensive experience or an ELDR's specialties?"

  • Yes. Anyone is welcome to join you for your sessions (ideally for the full 8 conversations). Please be sure to inform your ELDR at the first opportunity for planning purposes.

  • According to the Conversation Project National Survey, 92% of people say advance care planning is important, but only 32% actually do it. While there are a number of free and paid apps, books, and webinars that provide education and planning tools, we can all benefit from the personal connection and accountability of conveniently scheduled one-on-one conversations with an ELDR to ensure that we get our unique needs met, that we follow up on the necessary actions, and that we button up our planning without lingering loose ends.

  • We understand that sometimes the ELDR you select at first may not end up being the best match. After your 2nd conversation we check in with your ELDR to see how things are progressing. If you have a concern at any point in your experience, please reach out to your ELDR and/or the ELDR team at support@youreldr.com so that we can accommodate your needs and ensure you have the best end of life planning experience possible.

  • They likely will! One of the benefits of our ELDR process is that it sets you up well now, based on your current needs and values, while providing a solid foundation for future change and growth. You are the owner of your end of life plan, so you have the power to change those plans at any time in the future. The most important thing is getting your planning done now, as future adjustments and updates are much easier to make when you have a strong foundation.

  • You may request a new ELDR or a refund prior to your 3rd session. Following this time period, we do not offer refunds for an incomplete process.

  • We require 24 hours notice to your ELDR in order to request an appointment change. If you do not provide 24 hours notice your missed session will count toward your 8 sessions.

  • Strong partnerships and unity are central to our vision, but we do not belong to one specific movement and recognize a variety of credentials, disciplines, and professional styles. We value generosity and alignment across all disciplines, operating from the belief that “a rising tide lifts all boats.”
